During the ECG, 12 electrodes (sensors) are places over the chest, the signals are detected, and waves recorded on the computer or paper print out (Mayo Clinic, 2020). The PQRST wave of the ECG, allows for assessment of heart rate (normal, tachycardia, bradycardia), rhythm (sinus, arrhythmia, dysrhythmias) , heart attack, inadequate oxygen and blood supply to the heart, as well as structural abnormalities (Mayo Clinic, 2020). The P wave of the ECG indicates atrial depolarization or atrial contraction, changes the pressure in the right and left atria forcing blood to cross the AV valves into the ventricles (Klabunde, 2016). The PR interval represent the time between atrial depolarization and ventricular depolarization with a normal duration of 0.12 to 0.20 seconds (Ajam, 2019). The QRS complex represent ventricular depolarization or ventricular contraction and closure of the AV valves (Klabunde, 2016). The ST segment is the flat segment of the ECG between S and T, representing the time between ventricular depolarization and ventricular repolarization (Klabunde, 2016). The T wave, represents ventricular repolarization and the opening of the pulmonic valves of the heart (Klabunde, 2016). The QT interval is the time it take for the heart to fire an impulse or to contract and recover (Klabunde, 2016).Ajam, T. (March 11, 2019). What is the PR interval on an electrocardiography (ECG)?
